VOL.13 NO.1 (1996)
Abstract

NEEDS ASSESSMENT OF ENHANCED SUPPORT LEVEL PROGRAM STUDENTS IN LYCEUM OF ILIGAN FOUNDATION: BASIS FOR CAREER GOALS PLAN
MARSO 2016
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to prepare students for the world of work. However, preparing some students for secondary roles has changed. Vocational education has become increasingly technical, placing greater demands upon students.
The study uses the descriptive research design which is conclusive in nature, as opposed to exploratory. There were 39 students who were respondents in the S.Y. 2015-2016 from the first year students of Maritime Education Department.
The researchers used an adapted questionnaire from the logical arrangement of problem was used in the collection data. The statistical tools used by the researchers were frequency and percentage distribution, weighted mean and Pearson Correlation.
Based on the findings of the study, most of the students taking up the 2 year program in the Maritime Education, specifically the ESLP were from ages 16-19 years of age. Student’s needs inventory in terms of academic, character building, career, economic, family, psychological-emotional, sexual, social, and spiritual-moral are important factors that affect the student’s academic performance.
When tested with the relationship of the demographic profile of the respondents to the student’s needs inventory, it was found out that the correlation coefficient indicated that there is a significant relationship between the age and academic performance. But only the age has a correlation with the demographic profile and the rest of the student needs inventory in terms of academic, character building, career, economic, family, psychological-emotional, sexual, social, and spiritual moral, not have a significant correlation with the demographic profile in terms of age.
MANAGEMENT ATTITUDE
OF RETIRED SEAFARERS IN ILIGAN CITY
MARSO 2016
ABSTRACT
Issues such as the increased interest of the
world maritime community in the human element is limited (Theotokas et al.,
2014). Most researches concerning human behavior on board have put emphasis on
human factor and safety culture and little has been written on the subject of
leadership practice. Moreover, there’s
also a little evidence about how well-being is experienced in the context of
increasingly diverse retirement transitions (Heaven et al, 2014). This study focused on retired seafarers or retired maritime
professionals who were presently residing in Iligan City. The parameter of the
study solely described the retired marine professionals’ ship management
attitudes and their socio-demographic profiles.
This
research is purely a quantitative- descriptive research design. It used purposive sampling covering around
thirty two (32) retired seafarers from Iligan City. The study seafarers
regarded themselves as high in all areas of ship management operations.
Specifically, in areas revealed a high level of satisfaction in ship
operations, perceived quality teamwork, organizational issues, ship management,
and work goals. With the use of an independent sample t-test, it revealed no
significant differences between the levels of ship management operations in all
sub-domains. Thus, it implies that sex cannot account to one’s level of ship
management specifically. Satisfaction on ship operations, perception of the
quality of team work, awareness to organizational issues, ship management, and
work goals. Moreover, it may also infer that all sexes have similar experiences
regarding the aforementioned sub-domains of ship management attitude. Detailed
discussion and recommendations were also discussed in the study.

Abstract
YABO, LEONORA M.
"AWARENESS OF AND ADHERENCE TO PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY OF GOVERMENT EMPLOYEES OF ILIGAN CITY." Unpublished master thesis, Bukidnon State College, City of Malaybalay, March 2001.
SUMMARY
This study attempted to ascertain the awareness of and adherence to the public accountability of government employees of Iligan City the calendar year 1999-2000. Specifically, the study sought answer to the following questions:
Subproblem one: What is the extent of the government employees' awareness of public accountability in terms of the following: (a) nature of the characteristics of public accountability, (b) norms of public officials and employees and (c) performance of the duties of public officials and employees?
Subproblem Two: What is the extent of adherence to public accountability of government employees in terms of the above aspects?
Subproblem Three: Is there a significant different in the awareness of and adherence to public accountability of government employees?
The study made use of the descriptive method of research. the data gathered through a questionnaire. the instrument was a component of two major parts, the extent awareness of and the extent of adherence to the following: nature and characteristics of public accountability, norms of public officials and performance of the duties of public officials and employees. Public accountability was sourced from the provisions of RA No. 6713 otherwise known as the code of conduct and ethical standard of the Iligan City government were considered as the respondents of the study. They were drawn after the sample was determined using the Sloven's Formula.
FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, RECOMMENDATIONS
On the basis of the data analyzed, the following are the major findings of the study. for the problem one, on the extent of the respondents' awareness of public accountability, it was found that the respondents were much aware of all the aspects of public accountability except on nationalism, which was very much aware.
Based on the analysis and the findings on the problem one of the study, the following conclusion are made.
On the basis of the analysis, findings and conclusions of problem one of the study, the following recommendations are offered:
Considering the present level of the employees' AWARENESS OF AND ADHERENCE TO PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY, it is recommended that the city government of ILIGAN CITY through its Human Resource Management Office must initiate regular seminars to the employees public accountability in coodination with the Civil Service Comission. This is necessary to enhance awareness of and adherence to public accountability with the end and view that their effiency in the performance of their functions shall be improved.
For problem two, on the extent of the respondents' adherence to the public accountablity, it was found that the respondents often adhered to all the aspects of public accountability except on the professionalism, which was occasionally adhered to.
Since the respondents often Adhered to all the aspects to public accountability, then the employees has recognized that joining and serving the government requires compliance and subjection to civil service laws, rules and regulations. This suggest the compliance and subjection are absolute.
It is also recommended that the findings and conclusions of the study be explained to the whole workforce of the Iligan City government so that employees themselves shall have the opportunity to review the importance of public accountability and to improve their knowledge of this aspects.
For problem three, on the difference in the awareness of and adherence to public accountability, it was found that the respondents' awareness of and adherence to public accountability was significantly different.
Since there is significant difference between the employees' awareness of and adherence to public accountability, then an awareness of public accountability does not guarantee adherence to public accountability.
Finally, it is recommended that some items of the aspects of public accountability be quantified and incorporated in the criteria for performance appraisal of the employees with the objective that public accountability be a part of the work requirements of government employees.
THE NATIONAL TUBERCOLUSIS CONTROL PROGRAM: THE CASE OF THE CITY OF ILIGAN
MARCH 1997
Abstract
MAATA, DELIA P. THE NATIONAL TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL PROGRAM: THE CASE OF THE CITY OF ILIGAN . Mindanao State University.
March, 1997.
Adviser: Dr. Nasroden B. Guro
This study focuses on the evaluation of the TUBERCOLUSIS CONTROL PROGRAM (NTP) in Iligan City. It specifically sought to answer the following research questions:
1. What are the disease control strategies use by its program implementors in carry out the NTP?
2. What are the capabilities of its implementors in carry out the program in terms of:
2.1 educational attainment;
2.2 technical knowledge of TB;
2.3 seminars/ training attended;
2.4 length of work experience related to TB; and
2.5 attitude towards NTP?
3. What are the problems encountered in the implementation of the NTP as perceived by its program implementors and TB symptomatics and patients?
4. What are the solutions suggested by the respondents in solving the aforementioned problems?
5. How effective is the implementation of the program in terms of:
5.1 program service; and
5.2 program outcome?
Moreover, using Daniel Stufflebeam's (1973) evaluation models, otherwise known as the CIPP model (Context-Input-Process-Products), the study attempted to assess the program with emphasis on its 3 components, namely a) BCG vaccination; b) case findings, and c) case holdng/traitments.
The study employed a descriptive research design specifically the survey and interview methods. Two groups of respondents namely the program implementors and TB symptomatics/patients were selected using purposive and systematics samplng methods, respectively. Four research instruments were constructed and validated for this study, namely : a) NTP Feedback questionnaire, b) NTP interview guide; c) TB knowledge test; and d) NTP observation checklist.
The most salient findings of this study indicates that the program is faced with many problems primarily because some of its strategies in the process of its implementation fall short of the expectations and standards of the program.
The combined effects of all the problems which may be both external and internal to the NTP indicate that the program could have had a much remarkable impact if greater attention was placed on the quality of management support to field facilities and to the service delivery rather than to service coverage.
While the program has accomplished beyond its expected targets in its firsts two components, namely the BCG vaccination and case findings, it failed to monitor closely the case holding/treatment component. it was then noted that unless TB patients are completely cured with the disease, TB control efforts in Iligan City will continue to become a public health menace.
Strengthening information campaign about the NTP and seeking more financial support from the local governmnet are among the recommendations drawn from this study.

Abstract
Ma. Novy E. Pamesa, Jesusa C. Pelosas and Gina C. Reganas of Iligan City. Oct. 1989. Perceived Difficulties AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN CHEMISTRY 15 OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION STUDENTS IN MSU-IIT.
Adviser: Prof. Myrna E. Lahoylahoy.
This study determined the perceive DIFFICULTIES AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN CHEMISTRY 15 OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION STUDENTS IN MSU-IIT. It also tried to find out the relationship of the students' PERCEIVED DIFFICULTIES AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN CHEMISTRY 15.
The subjects of this research components of twenty six (26) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION STUDENTS IN MSU-IIT officially enrolled in chemistry 16 during the first semester of the school year 1989-1990.
The instruments use in this study was the questionnaire checklist. The instrument was divided into two parts. part a deal with the BSE students difficulties encountered in specific content/subject matter in chemistry 15. part B asked the respondents to select reasons/ causes why they considered the considered the concepts difficult.
Finding and conclusions were drawn from the data gathered. Based on the computer mean, the items considered extremely difficult are the topics on: Nuclear Chemistry and Intermolecular Forces of Attraction.
Among the items posing to be much difficult are the topics on: Solutions, Metallic Bonding, Chemical reaction, Atomic Structure, Electronic Structure, Chemical Bonding and States of matter. Matter and Energy is considered to be of average difficulty. The top Three reasons given for the difficulty in chem 15 are: lack of study habits, Lack of practice in solving chem 15 problems and lack of consultation from chemistry instructors are the grade grade 2.5 and 3.0. And also, the respondents performance in chem 15 is not significantly related to their perceived difficulties in chem 15.
The researchers therefore suggested that: students should be encouraged to form good study habits in chem 15 whether individually or by groups and if possible make use of the consultation hours of their chem 15 instructors. Since the topics Intermolecular Forces of Attraction and Nuclear Chemistry are perceived extremely difficult, emphasis on these areas must be given during chemistry lecture. Furthermore, students could be conducted to determined the relationship between perceived and actual difficulties of BSE studies in Chem 15.
